The order, originally filed by Councilor Jourdain on 10/7/14, states: "That an ordinance be created to allow renters access to the DPW facilities to bring refuse and surplus items just like homeowners"
Currently, to get a permit homeowners need to show a photo ID, and be up to date on their sewer bill, if applicable.
The drop-off center, located at 63 Canal Street, is open Monday through Friday from 7:15am - 2:30pm. Recyclables; plastic containers, paper, and clean cardboard can be dropped off without a permit.
The same Permit is used to access the yard waste drop-off site next to the wastewater treatment plant at 1 Berkshire St.
During the committee discussion Bartley suggested a small fee would inspire renters to go down to the DPW and get their permit card. Jourdain felt that was reasonable saying, "In lieu of you're not paying tax" referring to renters.
